Many of tennis' greats have conquered the Italian clay such as Bjorn Borg, Guillermo Vilas, Steffi Graf and Chris Evert. Players consider this tournament a true test of their clay court skills as they prepare for Roland Garros. The hometown crowd adds a unique characteristic to the series by creating a fun and festive atmosphere unlike any other tournament.
