Southbank is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on the south side of the Yarra River, opposite Melbourne's central business district.
Southbank is the area of Melbourne along the southern bank of the Yarra River. Cross Princes Bridge, turn left and walk down the steps to the river. The Southbank is formerly known as a hub for theaters and trendy restaurants. The Southgate Arts and Leisure Precinct, Melbourne's entertainment such as Arts Centre and Hamer Hall (formerly Melbourne Concert Hall).
Catch a boat across from Southgate complex to go up the Yarra River to St. Johns Lutheran Church where you'll find music and art programs. On the West side of Southbank is the Crown Entertainment Complex and the Crown Towers where most of the tennis players stay during the tournament, along with a bunch of restaurants and shops, and for those who love gambling they have the Crown Towers Casino.
